Rebecca Purcell

Years ago, when I first started working at Anthropologie, I had a boss that introduced me to the genius that is Rebecca Purcell. Whenever I start to feel like my aesthetic is too busy and not modern enough or that my home is far too cluttered to be cool, I think about this magazine tear of her home. It is the first tear I put in the first of my seven inspiration books. I (obviously) love it!

Rebecca also wrote the amazing book, Interior Alchemy:Secrets to Creating Expressive Ambience, a guide to her amazing style of interior design and her peculiar method of organization.
This tear is from the (dearly departed) Nest Magazine. In honor of Rebecca’s style, I didn’t crop the torn out page or the cool die-cut shapes of the magazine. It really adds to the picture don’t you think.

oh lovely! i am attempting to puzzle out exactly what my personal style is when it comes to home, and your comments about feeling “too busy and not modern enough” and “too cluttered to be cool” resonate big time! though given what you show us of your aesthetic sense here, i suspect your house is very cool indeed :) clearly i’ll have to check out Interior Alchemy…

That picture is beautiful, it’s a shame the book is so expensive. Can’t find much information on Rebecca Purcell on the web either.

i stumbled across this blog when i found the two links below and tried to find out more info/images on her work…it’s wonderful! will be looking for the old and the new book!

see the rebecca purcell ones midway down the page
They are apparently made by women’s co-ops in Nepal, (each necklace is unique and incorporates vintage materials). What a wonderful way to use tiny little textile treasures and charms…
