Noël, Noël
I apologize for the lack of updates around here lately. Things have been slow on the blog because my life is the opposite of slow right now. I am still working on this major project that i can’t talk about at the moment and it has managed to swallow up my life whole. Yesterday I worked from 9 am to 1 am! But enough of the pity party.
Here’s something I can show you.

I really wanted to have this in time for the Holiday Softie Awards but it just didn’t happen. When I was trying to think of a Softie food I would like to make, the idea of a Bûche de Noël immediately came to mind. I have always loved the idea of a cake mimicking a log so a softie mimicking a cake mimicking a log seemed right to me.

This was by far the most complicated food softie I have made to date but it was so much fun! I really enjoyed making the fabric wood grain and sewing up the mushrooms was a blast too. I also busted out my new needle felting tools for the holly leaves and berries.
Now I have to decide what to tackle next. Any suggestions or requests?

I hope your new, secret project is something fun that you are really enjoying, especially since you are spending so much time on it
As usual, you softie is the shiz-nit!

This is splendid! I love that there is a slice of the cake as well as the log. Great pictures, too. The berries and the little softie mushrooms are a great touch!

gorgeous, I love the combination of the needle felting with the cotton, and how you created a bark effect with thread.
some random ideas for the next softie food project: a turkey, a wedding cake, a fruit tart, pasta of some kind, lobster, banana split, strawberry shortcake. I kind of love the wedding cake idea, but it would be a big undertaking.

This is so darn adorable! I think you would have definitely won a Softie Award, so save it for next year’s competition.
Craftzine posted about this peppermint version that I am very tempted to make:

Hey, I have a similar project in the works, a birch tree, and I’m intrigued by exactly how you did the bark. If you could give me a few pointers, that would be great!
Thanks in advance!
